Your Mentor
Your mentor is a highly skilled graduate of the International Harp Therapy Program. We work to make a good match of student and mentor. We will assign you a mentor and introduce you to each other. Once you have been accepted to the program, your application is forwarded to your prospective mentor so that they can have more information about you.
Question: What is the role of the mentor as a student in the IHTP?
Answer: Your mentor is responsible for listening to your recordings, reading your written work, and keeping you on track so that you finish your work on time. Regular communication with your mentor is expected as a student in the IHTP. The mentor evaluates your work and recommends that you either be promoted to the next Unit or s/he will suggest spending additional time in the present Unit. S/he also informs the IHTP Administrative office of her decision.
Your tuition pays for 15 hours of consulting time with your mentor, and s/he keeps track of this time. Should you exceed the 15 hours as you progress through the 5 units, then you will be responsible for paying a mutually agreed fee between you and your mentor for her time. Much more information on a student’s responsibilities in the IHTP, and the mentor’s responsibilities to the students, is available in the At-Home Study Handbook.
Affiliated International Programs – 7 hours of mentor time for LEVEL 1 Certification and 8 hours for LEVEL 2 Certification is appropriate. Remember that mentors are not life coaches – they are there to answer questions and provide assistance about IHTP-related work. Their role is to keep you on task.
If you need instruction to meet our musical development goals, we suggest that you engage an appropriate music teacher (we can recommend several for you). Nearly all questions about our program can be answered by consulting the Student Handbook.
